FAME (The Future of the Atlantic Marine Environment) is an ambitious strategic transnational co-operation project that aim to link the protection of natural values, specifically biodiversity (avifauna) with economic activities at the European Atlantic Ocean. This project is financed by the EC INTERREG IV programme (2007-2013 Atlantic Area Programme) and has a duration of 39 months.

The consortium of this project is compose by 7 partners, from 5 countries (Portugal, Spain, France, United-Kingdom and Ireland) who have interest, knowledge and expertise in the marine environment, ranging from seabird tracking & monitoring to mapping, data analysis and engagement with the offshore renewable energy and fisheries sectors.

The WavEC´s main role in this project is to frame marine biodiversity conservation (mainly cetaceans and seabirds) into marine renewable energy (wave and wind) development. In this context, WavEC will produce a report on best practices to assess the environmental impact of wave and offshore wind energy on seabirds and cetaceans. Stakeholders’ engagement will be developed around this topic through two dedicated workshops.
