The exploitation of the sea in its many aspects such as fishing, shipping, leisure, and energy in particular, is now considered a natural plan of Portugal, a country that has the largest Exclusive Economic Zone of the European Union with an area about 18 times its terrestrial part. The EnergyIN - Pole of Competitiveness and Energy Technology, in collaboration with the WavEC-Wave Energy Centre, is organizing a workshop that aims to stimulate a debate on the strategy that is necessary to develop and which paths to follow so that Portugal can position itself as a world player in the field of ocean energy. This workshop will take place on June the 30th of 2011, at the Institute of Social and Political Sciences (Alto da Ajuda, Lisbon). In the morning a "Study on Offshore Renewable Energy", developed recently by WavEC for EnergyIN, will be presented followed by group discussions around the proposals of this study. The conclusions of these discussions will be presented and discussed during the afternoon. The sessions will all be held in Portuguese.
